Learn About Me

I was born on November 11, 1954, in New Eagle, Pennsylvania, to Frank Pritchard, Jr. and Barbara Pritchard. We lived in the small town of Bunola, in Allegheny County alongside the Monongahela River, usually with or near my grandparents until I was twelve. For me, Bunola was a great place to grow up.

For most of my childhood, my father was an engineer on the Pennsylvania Railroad and my mother a homemaker. It was my mother who instilled the love of reading in me by bringing me home Little Golden Books when she would go to the grocery store.

When I was twelve, we had to move to Beaver County to be closer to my father’s job. At the time I thought it was the most horrible thing that ever happened to me. But years later I would see how it helped to open my eyes to more of the world around me.

In high school, I was asked, along with several other classmates, by my history teacher, Miss Townsend, to give the morning announcements and speak at school events. It was this same Miss Townsend who later opened my eyes to J. R. R. Tolkien, C. S. Lewis and the world of fantasy and science fiction. Because of her, and my English teacher, Mr. Cole, who introduced me to women writers such as Jane Austen and Emily Brontë, my love for reading grew.

But all through high school, I never had the desire to write. I never joined the school newspaper or the writing club. And don’t even ask me about writing poetry for English class! I instead was an artist doing bulletin boards, posters, banners and portraits… whatever they asked.

After high school, I attended ONU in Quincey, Illinois, hoping to major in teaching and minor in physiology. However I quit after a year to get married. Twenty years and three daughters later, I finally went back to school for drafting and received an Associate’s degree in Applied Science. Since then I have been a computer automated drafter doing 2D and 3D product drawings.

This book came about because of a dream that I had one night. When I woke up the next morning, I could only remember the last part and I thought it would make a great young adult science fiction novel. I wanted someone to write it. But, then I realized I was the only one who knew the dream, so it would have to be me. So, I set about writing it bit by bit, while raising three girls and working full time.

In 2011, I took a creative writing class at Beaver County’s community college, not knowing where to go with my book since I was close to finishing it. It was there I met my professor and later, friend, Gia Tatone. It was she that helped me get my manuscript together and introduced me to Red Engine Press (Joyce Faulkner and Pat Avery) who published my book, The Eagle’s Eyes, in partnership with Onward Publications in 2013.

Now, I am busy working on the next two books in the series, The Cat’s Eyes, which I hope to have published later this year, and The Serpent’s Eyes.

Mother of three grown daughters, Rebecca, Lindsay and Alisha and grandmother of Eden, I reside in Rochester, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, where I continue to write, paint and teach.
